How students can succeed in lecture hall classes
While Christian colleges and universities may share the same core values, it is important for prospective students to remember that they come in different shapes and sizes. Before individuals apply to these schools, they should consider what type of academic setting they will perform best in.
For instance, large Christian universities may have more students enrolled than small Christian colleges. As a result, some classes may take place in lecture halls, while others are more intimate with only a handful of students. Those who thrive in smaller classes may not perform as well in lecture halls, where they are just one of many. However, anybody who is concerned about how they will perform in lecture halls should know there are plenty of ways for them to not only survive in these settings, but also possibly flourish.
In a lecture hall, where there may be hundreds of students, it is impossible for one professor to see what every single student is doing. As a result, there will be those who are texting, listening to music on their mp3 player or passing notes to their classmates. If students are easily distracted, then they should consider sitting toward the front of the room. After all, they are unlikely to get away with checking their voicemail messages if they are sitting directly in front of their instructor.
Another problem some students have in lecture hall classes is attending class regularly. While some professors pass around an attendance sheet, others do not and trust that all of their pupils are in the room. There may be days when students feel it is all too easy simply to skip class for the day and get notes from their friend. While it may be nice to sleep in for the day, students will ultimately suffer in the long run in the event that their classmate took incomplete or incorrect notes.
Being at every class and taking good notes can also play a big role in students’ academic success. Professors may not notice everybody in their lecture halls at first, but after a few high grades individuals may start to stand out. As a result, students who want to rise to the top of the class will want to make sure they have everything they need in order to be a good student, whether it is a tape recorder or a simple highlighter.
