Pray for guidance when choosing a major at an online Christian college
Many believers may feel called to serve the Lord in a different vocation. However, choosing where to apply their skills and how to represent Christ either in the workplace or a ministry setting can be daunting for some people. Individuals who are struggling with how to choose the right major at online Christian colleges and universities may find the following tips useful.
Identify strengths and weaknesses
Before committing to any decisions, men and women of faith who are considering studying at an online Christian university should conduct a thorough assessment of their skills, strengths and weaknesses.
The Bible tells believers that it is good and right to use the talents that God gave them. Romans 12:6-8 reads, “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
This means that whatever Christians are good at is a gift from the Lord, and they should strive to use these talents to serve Him. Individuals who are talented communicators may find purpose in a marketing or public relations major, whereas people who are kind and patient might tend toward a degree in psychology or social work.
Ask for His guidance
One of the hardest things for a believer to do is actually submit themselves to God’s will as opposed to their own.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” This means that, as difficult as it might be, serving Him may lead Christians down a path other than the one they want for their lives.
For example, if an individual wants to pursue a career in business but feels called to serve the Lord in ministry, such endeavors may not bear fruit unless believers are headed in the direction in which God wants them to go. Relinquishing selfish desires and stepping out in bold faith can be very challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.
Whatever God’s plan for their lives, believers can realize their ambitions to serve Him courageously by studying at online Christian colleges and universities.
