North Park University honors diversity at award ceremony
Some individuals may be on the fence about applying to Christian colleges and universities, thinking that an institution mostly populated by students of the same faith will lack diversity. This simply is not the case.
These individuals need look no further than Chicago, Illinois’ North Park University to see how a Christian university can be a very diverse environment in which to earn a degree. According to the institution’s website, North Park provides students with a community of faith. However, the school’s community is just as diverse as the city it calls home.
On April 20, North Park held its Multicultural Awards Banquet, which honored various members of the university community, including students and faculty members. According to the school’s website, awards were given in recognition of these individuals’ commitments to cultural advocacy, diversity and justice.
Among the honors that were given out at the ceremony were the Academic Excellence Award, the Cultural Arts Award and the International Student Award.
The university has a history of acceptance that reflects its Christian values. For instance, in 2010, the school received the Robert and Susan Andringa Reward for Advancing Racial Harmony, according to The North Park Press.
