What makes a successful leader?
No matter what major men and women of faith choose to study at online Christian colleges and universities, strong leadership skills are valuable in many professions. In addition to serving them well in their careers, the secrets of effective leadership are useful to students in their church and homes.
Serving with humility
Just as Christ exemplified humility and meekness, so too should His followers. Individuals enrolled at online Christian colleges can learn much about how to lead others with a humble attitude.
The book of 1 Timothy 2:4 reads, “Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive.” This means that in order to be respected, men and women of faith who are in a position of authority must serve as an example of good moral conduct and upright standing in their communities.
Open mind, open ears Just as setting a good example is important for believers who aspire to lead, so too is the ability to listen. The critical thinking skills that students learn at online Christian colleges can be adapted to hear what people are really saying in the workplace, in church and at home.
This is perhaps best illustrated by Proverbs 18:13, which reads, “If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.”
Similarly, the best managers realize that merely attaining a position of authority is only the beginning of becoming an effective leader and servant of Christ. Unless individuals commit themselves to lifelong learning, both at online Christian universities and in their church, they cannot expect to serve to the best of their abilities.
A great number of teachers
Once individuals have earned their qualifications from online Christian colleges, there are a variety of ways in which they can improve their leadership skills and learn new techniques.
For example, the Christian Leadership Alliance (CLA) is an organization dedicated to teaching men and women of faith strong leadership skills from a biblical perspective. The CLA holds a series of conferences annually designed to equip the next generation of church elders with the knowledge they need to serve Christ effectively.
