Build the house of God as a Christian missionary
For some people in Latin America, places of worship can be hard to come by, and many people in South America have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ at all. Individuals who feel passionately about spreading the Good News and building God’s church can enroll at Christian colleges and universities to become missionaries.
Brick by brick
Countries such as Brazil are in desperate need of churches. Many Christian mission groups operate throughout Latin America, sending men and women of faith overseas to help build places of worship in the most needy areas. One such group is Christian Missions Unlimited (CMU), which has constructed 300 churches in Brazil alone.
Building a church is not merely about providing believers with a place to worship. Just as the bricks of a building rest upon the foundation, so too do Christians rest on the foundation of Christ and His teachings. This is perhaps best illustrated by Ephesians 2:20-22, which reads, “Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
A noble calling
Many Christian colleges and universities offer believers an extensive range of options when it comes to missions work and ministry degrees. Cross-cultural communication is an important topic for aspiring missionaries to study, and many individuals considering ministry opportunities abroad also complete some evangelism classes.
Although it is by no means a formal requirement, some men and women of faith choose to continue their studies at the graduate level. Establishing new churches overseas requires more than just hard work – it also relies on the knowledge, wisdom and love of missionaries to spread the teachings of Christ as they construct churches. The very act of building a place of worship is an ideal opportunity for men and women of faith to show Christ’s love in action.
A world in need
Organizations such as CMU are not the only ones building churches around the world. Groups such as International Cooperating Ministries specialize in church-building ministries, operating in countries such as China, India and Vietnam.
Individuals who feel passionately about doing God’s work and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ should discuss their plans with the admissions officials at their prospective Christian colleges and universities to learn more about international mission opportunities.
