Choosing a Christian outreach mission

Choosing a Christian outreach mission

Many men and women of faith have a strong desire to help others who are less fortunate. Enrolling in ministry degree programs at Christian colleges and universities is an excellent way for individuals to learn how to spread God’s love and help those in need, but some people may not know where the Lord wants them to serve. As such, choosing a suitable Christian missions outreach program is something that deserves serious thought.

A prayerful approach
Before making any decisions about where or how to serve the Lord, Christian men and women may want to pray about the path that God wants them to take. Prayer is one of the most important of all biblical principles, and this is perhaps best illustrated by verses such as Luke 11:9, which reads, “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” This means that if men and women of faith are unsure of where to serve God, prayer may be one way to answer their questions.

Similarly, the Bible has much to say about the importance of missions trips themselves. This is evident in passages such as Colossians 3:17, which reads, “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” This means that, no matter where men and women of faith feel called to serve the Lord, they should do so knowing that God has a plan for their lives and will use their skills and talents to help those in need.

Close to home
Many people who wish to embark upon Christian missions trips believe they must do so in the farthest corners of the world. While this may be suitable for some men and women of faith, others might find a real need in their local communities.

Before choosing a degree program at a Christian university or enlisting with a Christian missions organization, individuals considering a ministry outreach program should think about the causes that touch their heart. If men and women feel particularly passionate about feeding the homeless or advocating for civil rights, there are hundreds of opportunities to do so all over the U.S.

With prayer and careful consideration, men and women of faith can find the Christian colleges and universities that align with not only their own plans, but those of the Lord as well.
