Family Nurse Practitioner
The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program is a Master of Science in Nursing designed to prepare current registered nurses to fulfill the role of a competent, caring practitioner responsible for managing the care of families in the primary care setting. FNPs are clinical experts who implement a holistic approach that emphasizes both care and cure. They apply cutting-edge science and manage the health needs of patients in primary care settings. The focus of the FNP program is to provide the academic knowledge and clinical skills necessary for health promotion, disease prevention, assessment, and management of common acute and chronic illnesses.
Nurse Midwifery/Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
The Nurse Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program is a Master of Science in Nursing designed to prepare the graduate to manage a woman’s normal obstetrical and gynecological needs during the childbearing years, to manage the care of the normal newborn, and to provide primary care to women throughout the lifespan. Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies established the Nurse Midwifery program in 1972. The program now includes an innovative Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program, which provides students with the opportunity to study women’s health and midwifery practice through a strong didactic program that includes advanced courses in pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment. The program also includes a clinical sequence that allows students to experience a wide range of women’s health settings.
Nursing Education
The Nursing Education program is a Master of Science in Nursing that prepares the professional student to be a nurse educator in a variety of settings including higher education, vocational education, staff development, and patient education. This Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies program is designed to prepare future leaders to respond to the growing complexity of health care instruction at all levels. The goal of the program is to inspire educators who will develop and teach in programs geared towards higher education, vocational education, staff development, patient education, and educational research and policy.
